10 Things You Didn't Know About Denim

You consider yourself a blue-jean baby, but how much do you really know about denim? Read on to brush up on a few facts you probably never knew about denim, and prepare to love this style staple even more!
  1. 115: In 1998, a pair of 115 year old jeans were found in a California mine.

  2. 1873: Levi Strauss & Co. made the first pair of jeans in 1873.

  3. Waist overalls: what we now call jeans were originally named waist overalls.

  4. Indigo: The blue color of denim originally came from the indigo plant but now is mostly synthetic.

  5. 2001: George W. Bush banned blue jeans from the Oval Office in 2001.

  6. Zippers: Men’s and women’s zippers are positioned on opposite sides.

  7. On average, women today own seven pairs of jeans.

  8. 45: The average price of a pair of jeans is 45$.

  9. JEAN vs. DENIM: During the 19th century, jean was used in clothing while denim was a separate fabric for work clothes.

  10. 1950: During the 1950’s many schools banned denim, considering it a form of rebellion against authority.
